What it is

  • Game servers
  • Minecraft
  • Docker
  • Panel

Pterodactyl is a game server management panel: Minecraft, Rust, CS2, ARK, Terraria and dozens of other games via ready-made templates (eggs). Each server runs in its own Docker container with CPU, RAM and disk limits.

The panel is handy if you host several game servers for a community or sell them: each player gets their own access, console, file manager, SFTP, schedules and backups.

It has two parts: the web panel (PHP) and the Wings daemon that runs the servers. Installing both on a single VPS is handled by the popular pterodactyl-installer.se script (GPL-3.0).

  • Templates for Minecraft, Rust, CS2, ARK, Terraria and other games
  • Server isolation in Docker with resource limits
  • Web console, file manager and SFTP
  • Task schedules and backups
  • Subusers and access permissions
  • API for automation and billing

Pterodactyl FAQ

Didn’t find an answer? Message @ExpressHost_SupportBot.

How many servers can the plan handle?

It depends on the games. 4 vCPU and 8 GB fits 2–3 Paper Minecraft servers for small groups, or one heavy modpack.

Is the install script official?

No, it is the popular community project pterodactyl-installer. Officially, Pterodactyl is installed manually following the pterodactyl.io documentation.

Where is game server data stored?

Wings stores server files in /var/lib/pterodactyl/volumes, the panel lives in /var/www/pterodactyl.

Pterodactyl installs at checkout — in the bot.
